Day 37
February 6, 2010It’s a new theme today: ‘ Seaside‘. I hope there will be plenty to capture.
This is the beautiful coast at Shoalwater Bay, a few miles down the coast at Rockingham. This has not been enhanced…it really is that colour!

A breezy walk on the beach which was an ex foliating experience!
The dog beaches are a great facility with everyone respecting the boundaries.
Indiana was once known as the ‘Indiana Tea House’. The original building was a shack-like composite, which originated in 1910, had a quaint tea room and ice-cream parlour. It served as a pit-stop for the playground that was Cottesloe Beach, Perth’s top spot for surf, sand and sun.
Family and friends of Heath Ledger (The Joker in The Dark Knight) met here in 2008 for his wake after his funeral in Fremantle Cemetery. News link
Spring 2009 renovations have re-launched Indiana as a Modern Beach Bistro
South Beach is one of Fremantle’s oldest and most popular beaches.
Away from the hustle and bustle of Freo’s busy Cappuccino Strip it is one of South Fremantle’s best kept secrets.
One of those days where you don’t know where it went!
Grabbed the camera and walked down to what’s left of the Long Jetty. The jetty was the focal point of maritime activities in Western Australia from the 1870s to the1920s. It extended 750m out to sea. There is only this bit left!
Finishing the ‘seaside’ theme is a nice sunset at Cotessloe Beach, featuring the statue ‘Roundabout’
An early start this morning to welcome the Queen Victoria cruise ship into port.
For all the shipping enthusiasts…..
Queen Victoria is not an ocean liner as she does not have the heavy plating, high freeboard, and propulsion system of a liner, but is outfitted as a cruise ship. Some ship aficionados have criticised Cunard for naming this ship as a Queen; the designation having previously been reserved for the line’s ocean liners and flagships (Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Elizabeth 2, and Queen Mary 2). It has been suggested that the Queen Victoria should have borne the name of one of Cunard’s previous smaller ships, such as the Mauretania, orAquitania, as was done with the last Caronia, which served Cunard between 1999 and 2004.
Having said that, she is a very pretty ship:-
……what comes in, must go out…The Queen Victoria departs
