Day 182
July 1, 2010Good news…it’s half way and I’m still going !
June Update:
Despite life throwing it’s usual curve balls I have in the main managed to post a photograph every day, and almost without exception, within 36 hours. Travel and the occasional ‘internet free’ zones can make it a challenge to upload the photographs.
I’m happy with most of the photographs so far. Some I’m really proud of and inevitably some I do cringe a bit when I look back
Some lessons learned:
It has been fun!!
Some days it’s easy, some days it’s much harder. I’m slowly learning to embrace the easy days and not be discouraged by the tough days.
There are days when I don’t want to shoot, days when everything I take seems awful, days I just don’t have the time or energy to produce my best quality work.
It is impossible to produce great art every day – but I do keep trying.
I’ve learned not to be too precious about the website – it’s not a portfolio, it’s a work book and a bit of a diary.
I’ve managed to post even when I’m not totally happy with the image – I hopefully learn as much from my failures as I do from the successes.
So what happened to the themes?
Regular followers will have noted that the themes sort of fell by the wayside. My resolve for the next couple of months is to revive them and I do thank again all the friends who took time to suggest ideas. I will dig back into that treasure pot.
Why do I have to go through an extra page?
The website had to change a little because the rolling gallery was getting very unwieldy as it had to be uploaded each day in it’s entirety. Splitting it into months has helped enormously. If anyone is interested it is an Adobe Lightroom Gallery – LRB Portfolio.
It is amazing that the two formats each have such strong followers. I expected one to prevail, but wanting to avoid upsetting anyone the two formats will continue to the end.
The year so far…
Life has been ‘interesting’ and just re-enforces that we never know what is around the corner.
Australia was hot, dry and a long time to be away from home (5 months)
My gorgeous sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and I have been so sad that my ‘little blister’ has to go through such an experience. She is coping so well and keeping a balanced and positive outlook.
I returned from Australia at the end of April and immediately tore a cartilage in my knee. This required an operation and limited mobility for some time. I can tell you it has had a significant impact on photo opportunities.
The month of June has been excellent for weather and the abundance of wonderful flowers has somewhat obsessed me. Resolution: ‘Stop taking pictures of flowers’!
As ever I couldn’t keep the project going without the support and frequent ‘photo spotting’ by Kairen. The worry is that she is getting VERY good at it!
I will stop now, as this will become a chore to read, and will endeavour to produce another update next month.
A final positive thought (maybe!)………
I gather that 75% of people who start a 365 project never finish.
Me? I’m too stubborn to quit !
I hope you got them all. We had a nest once in the cupboard off our bedroom, and I still remember son, Dave, getting himself all kitted out with net over his face, gloves, the whole smear and going in with a bomb to get ’em for me.
Happy half way point! Keep at it, believe me in the end you will be happy you did!
