Day 73
March 14, 2010An early start this morning to watch the Queen Mary 2 come into port.
The time of her arrival was brought forward to 05.45 and we expected to be alone. There were thousands of people on the wharf to greet her! With just 100 feet to spare they turned the massive 1150 foot ship, around, 180 degrees in the port. …awesome!
Walking back at 7am we spotted the green gates to our nearest pub…The Norfolk.
I need some sleep……….
To give an idea of scale she is 147 feet longer than the Eiffel Tower and is only 117 feet shorter than the Empire State Building is tall
Day 74
March 15, 2010With excitement of the Queen Mary 2 over we take a gentle stroll down the South Mole which had been a vantage point for many of the thousands who came to Freo yesterday.

July 20th 2003 was the Centenary of the first lighting of the South Mole Light with a white occulting light. It was to be another week before the South Mole Light would flash out its own green light which has continued until today
Deicisions…decisions…
I had difficulty choosing which picture to use today. The choice was between the more unsusual ( below) and the illustrative. I decided that the sign was perhaps too intrusive. Any views?
